Mary Douglas (she/her) is a pianist and organist born and raised in Mukilteo and south Everett. She began studying the piano around age 9, after watching her mom take lessons. During her second year of college, she took her first organ class and quickly became hooked.

Mary studied Piano Performance and Biology at Bard College in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, graduating in 2023. While at Bard, her primary teachers were Blair McMillen for piano, Marka Gustavsson for chamber music, and Renée Anne Louprette for organ.

She previously played continuo in the Bard College Baroque Ensemble and was featured as an organ concerto soloist in their 2021 season as well as their 2023 performance of Bach’s Cantata BWV 35. Having recently returned to Washington, Mary currently works as the Music Director for Magnolia Lutheran Church in Seattle.

As a teacher, Mary strives help her students build sustainable relationships to music that will grow with them over their lives. She encourages students to explore more effective practice techniques, more expansive musicality, and an increasingly developed sense of musical voice.

In addition to music, Mary is also a biologist with a focus on plant community ecology. She enjoys working within and between her two disciplines, using music to interact with the world of plants. In her spare time, she loves being outside anyway she can, and particularly loves hiking and birdwatching with her family.
